The missing step most men skip when chasing success

Most men chase bigger goals without ever asking the question that matters most: Where am I actually starting from?

Building a house on sand isn’t sustainable. No matter how good the design, how expensive the materials, or how much effort you put in it will eventually collapse.

The same goes for life.

I’ve coached men who look successful on the outside: professional athletes, 8-figure business owners, dads who seem to “have it all”.

But behind closed doors, they admit they’re barely keeping it together. They’ve built on a sandy foundation, chasing results without first knowing their true baseline.

I get it because I’ve been there. More than a decade ago, I did my first audit of myself. It was brutal. I had to face truths I’d been avoiding: how I was spending my time, how unhealthy my body was, and how toxic some of my relationships had become. But without that level of honesty, I’d still be stuck repeating the same patterns.

Your standards are either building you or breaking you.

The BECOME Method: Starts with Baseline

That’s why the very first step in The BECOME Method is Baseline.

It’s not about judging yourself, it’s about knowing yourself. When you understand exactly where you are, you can build a plan that actually works for you, instead of chasing goals that don’t fit your reality.

Skipping this step adds years of unnecessary adversity. It’s like setting out on a marathon without knowing where the starting line is.

So, what does a baseline look like? It can be quick or in-depth but the deeper you go, the stronger your foundation becomes.

Four Areas to Audit

Here are four areas I recommend starting with:

Time

How are you really spending your days?

What drains your energy? What builds it?

What can you delegate or delete altogether?

Health

How’s your sleep, nutrition, and recovery?

Have you had recent bloodwork done?

Are you tracking metrics (through something like WHOOP) so you can see progress, not just guess?

Mindset

What beliefs are holding you back?

How do you respond under pressure?

Do you see setbacks as roadblocks or as feedback?

Environment

Does your environment inspire you or limit you?

Is your peer group pulling you up or dragging you down?

Do the spaces you spend time in reflect the man you want to become?

Even answering a few of these honestly will shift your awareness. And with awareness comes the first real step forward.

Auditing yourself isn’t easy. It forces you to stop running and confront the truth. But it’s far easier than continuing to live misaligned.

If you’re serious about building a great life one that’s sustainable, one that doesn’t collapse under pressure you need a foundation.

When you get your baseline right, everything else becomes easier:

Goals feel achievable instead of overwhelming.

Habits actually stick.

You know what matters and what doesn’t.

It’s not about perfection, it’s about honesty.

Take 30 minutes today. Choose just one of the four areas above and write down your answers. Don’t overthink it. Just be honest.

That’s your baseline. From there, you’ll see the first clear steps you need to take.
